The cost of food waste

SMH: A chef frustrated with picky diners leaving leftovers on their plate has come up with a novel solution to reduce food waste – offer customers a 30% discount if they eat everything they have ordered. Chef Yukako Ichikawa from Sydney’s Waku restaurant decided she was sick of wasting precious food and now asks diners to eat everything on their plates, except lemon slices, sushi ginger and wasabi, to earn the discount.     I have a hobby farm and take left over food from bakeries and fruit shops for my animals. Its amazing how much waste there is, great food, the animals love it. It is a shame that we live in such a throw away society. Some animals dont even see grass, yet we throw out boxes of lettuce, cauliflowers etc every day.

    Huh? there’s a simple solution – make restaurants serve less and charge less and everyone will be a winner! i’d be more than happy to pay half the price for half the food; but will they do that? nope, piling plates and charging heaps is de rig for the typical restaurant 🙁
